Advanced stop line at pedestrian crossings

a road marking which increases visibility and safety

Nearly 40 % of children in road accidents are killed or injured as pedestrians when crossing the road on a so called “protected zebra crossing”.

The improvement of pedestrian crossings is necessary to reinforce the security that they are supposed to provide. The solution is to install an advanced stop line 5 metres before the pedestrian crossing.

This would prevent children finding themselves in the blind spot of a lorry and would allow them to detect any overtaking vehicle.

This efficient solution has been adopted in several countries and is being tested in Strasbourg (France).
